Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) member in the Parliament, who has been one of the leading figures since the very beginning of the protests in Taksim and was hit directly by a tear gas capsule which forced him to spend some time in the hospital yesterday, has criticized the centrist nationalist Kemalist Party, CHP (Republican People's Party) which is (too late after all) trying to appropriate the movement.
Önder said: "We have started this resistence. The CHP is trying to profit like a taxi driving behind an ambulance. We don't buy that!"
The CHP is trying to redefine the whole movement as a conflict between itself (as the representative of the secular thinking population) the ruling islamic-conservative AKP.
